Some buildings are remembered for their architecture. Others are defined by the long-term mission they embody, becoming symbols of a nation's aspirations for development. Ho Guom Theatre or Ho Guom Opera House was created with such a mission.
Developed by the Ministry of Public Security in partnership with the Hanoi People's Committee, the theater occupies a prime 5,000 sq m site in one of the capital's most culturally significant locations.
Equipped with advanced facilities and state-of-the-art technology, the venue has been designed to host major political, cultural and artistic events while contributing to the promotion of Vietnam's culture, tourism and socio-economic development.
Ho Guom Theatre is the first venue in Vietnam to meet international standards for both natural and amplified acoustics. Acoustic design consultancy Delhom Acoustique developed the theater's sound system, integrating reverberation and sound reflection into the building's architecture and interior design to ensure voices and music are delivered naturally and accurately to every seat in the auditorium.
The theater's main auditorium has a seating capacity of 800.
Expanding international cooperation
Over the past three years, Ho Guom Theatre has actively collaborated with Vietnamese performing arts organizations to stage numerous productions of political, cultural and artistic significance.
The venue has also earned the confidence of international partners, with many of the world's leading theaters proactively seeking cooperation with Ho Guom Theatre.
These developments have coincided with the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution No. 80, which outlines new directions for the development of Vietnam's cultural industries and provides fresh momentum for cultural institutions to expand their role in a new era.
According to the theater, each memorandum of understanding signed with international partners opens another gateway for Vietnamese performing arts to integrate into the global cultural landscape.
This reflects a two-way process of cultural diplomacy in which Vietnam shares its cultural identity while engaging in dialogue with other cultures on equal terms.
A growing cultural landmark
Ho Guom Theatre has hosted and co-produced numerous major political, cultural and artistic events.
It has also welcomed internationally renowned artists, including Kenny G, Katy Perry and Caroline Campbell.
In 2023, the theater was named one of the world's Top 10 Opera Houses by the World Travel Awards (WTA).
As Ho Guom Theatre celebrates its third anniversary, it is looking back on a journey marked by memorable milestones while continuing its mission to contribute to the future development of Vietnam's performing arts and cultural exchange.
