Huong was unable to attend the awards ceremony in Hong Kong last night but she sent a video message saying, “It was my great honor to be awarded such a wonderful spiritual gift this year”. She also promised to try her best to contribute to the music industry of Vietnam and Asia.

Pop stars My Tam and Thu Minh have previously won the title.

Other artists who were honoured at the event included Japan’s Leiri Leo, Singapore’s JJ LIN, Indonesia’s Raisa, and Thailand’s Thaitanium.

The MAMAs, first held in 1999, has steadily grown and evolved to become South Korea's representative music awards. Since 2009, this award has been presented to 10 artists of ten Asian countries.

Huong is famous for her sensual and unique voice, which helped her win Lan Song Xanh's Most Favorite Singer award four years in a row. She also received a Singer of the Year nomination for the Commitment Award in 2012 and many other music awards in Vietnam.

She has appeared in the Asia Song Festival 2008, Dancing with the Stars (season 1), Vietnam Idol (season 3), the Perfect Couple (season 1), and X-factor (season 1). In 2013 Huong was recently crowned as Asia's Sexiest Vegetarian Woman by PETA Asia Pacific.
