The authorities in Hoi An Town have tightened management of the boat services on the Hoai River.
Boat services bloom in Hoi An
When visiting Hoi An, tourists often take trips on the Hoai River. However, boat services have been loosely managed and pose safety risks for tourists.
During a meeting on March 13, Nguyen Van Son, vice chairman of Hoi An, said that the number of tourists using boats had increased sharply and the number of boats had also surged out of control. In response the authorities will remove unregistered boats.
"There must be a rule for everyone to work on shifts instead of fighting against each other over the tourists," Son said.
There are 170 boats operating on Hoai River, 100 boats belong to Minh An Ward.
Overcrowding on boats and a lack of safety equipment has been cited as a problem.
The authorities have also decided that they will regulate what lights and decorations boats should have.
