Hoang Anh has been chosen to replace midfielder Quang Hai, who was previously captain of the national U23 side at the last SEA Games.
The team will feature two vice-captains, including midfielder Do Hung Dung and striker Tien Linh.
Born in 1999, Hoang Anh is widely considered to be one of the most prospective midfielders. Indeed, he made 24 appearances for Ha Tinh FC in the V. League 1 2020 and 2021 seasons, before moving to Binh Dinh FC for the 2022 season.
The Vietnamese U23 team are currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center to prepare for upcoming friendly matches against U20 players of the Republic of Korea at Viet Tri Stadium on April 19 and the Hang Day Stadium on April 20.
These matches will serve as a warmup for the team ahead of their games at the SEA Games 31 in May. The regional tournament has seen Vietnam drawn in the same group as Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Timor Leste.
