Vietnamese young tennis player Ly Hoang Nam failed in both boy’s singles and doubles titles in the third round at Roland Garros on June 3.
In boy’s singles, Nam was defeated by Manuel Pena Lopez (from Argentina) in three-hour match with scores of 7-6, 3-6 and 8-10.
Losing too much energy in singles, Nam could not perform well in boy’s doubles title. Hoang Nam (from Vietnam)/ Bogdan Bobrov (from Russia) were beaten by Tim Sandkaulen (from Germany)/Mate Valkuzs (from Hungary) 2-6 and 5-7.
Roland Garros (or French Open) tournament is one of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments in a year. This year it is held in Paris, France from May 19 to June 7.
Scores of motorcyclists to compete in tournament
The seventh round of the 2015 National Motor Racing Championship for 125cc to 135cc engines will take place in Ba Ria-Vung Tau on Saturday.
Fifty-six professional and semi-professional motorcyclists from strong clubs nationwide are participating in the championship.
The tournament, which is jointly organised by the Viet Nam Motorcycle Sports Federation and the provincial department of culture, sports and tourism, is expected to draw thousands of fans.
Thousands join football festival
More than 3,500 footballers from 14 teams nationwide and a team from Laos are playing in the Football for All in Vietnam Cup 2015, that will run until June 5.
School children and players from social centres for disadvantaged children in Thua Thien-Hue will take part in a series of activities, including cultural exchanges, life skills games and a parade to mark World Environment Day on June 5.
The FFAV 2015 Cup, entitled Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care, is being held for the third time.
Former famous footballers Nguyen Hong Son, who is coach of Viettel juniors, and female coach Ngoc Cham of Hanoi, will also take part in the event orgnised by the Football Association of Norway, the Vietnam Football Federation and the province.
FFAV's community football aims to develop children's non-competitive grassroots football in primary and secondary schools with a special focus on marginalised group such as people with disabilities, people with ethnic minority backgrounds, and people with HIV/AIDS.
The community football programme has 171 football clubs with 17,468 players aged from 6-15, half of who are girls, and more than 5,000 people have been trained as coaches, leaders and referees in the country.
Students make final of U13 footie
Hung Dong Secondary School in Nghe An will play Au Co Secondary School from Nha Trang in the opening match of the final round of Group A in the national football festival for U13s today in Ha Noi.
They finished in the 12 teams that qualified from regional qualification rounds in six cities and provinces.
The final is scheduled on Sunday, and the winners will enjoy an exchange tour to Japan, where they will take part in friendly matches against Japanese teams.
"The festival focuses on quality, fairness and professionalism. We expect to take one step closer to our goals of improving the knowledge and skills of Vietnamese children about football, and dicover young talents," said Ono Masaru, general director of Yamaha Motor Vietnam.
The event, co-organised by Thieu Nien Tien Phong (Young Pioneers) newspaper and The Thao 24h Joint Stock Company, is part of a Yamaha programme titled: For the Future of Viet Nam Football.
