Hoang Nam enters China ITF semi-finals
Young Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam has secured a place in the China Junior U16 Beijing’s semi-final after defeating leading host player Zheng Weiqiang 2-0 on September 26.
The tournament is part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Group 2.
Weiqiang is one hundred places higher than Nam in the latest ITF junior rankings, and defeated the Vietnamese player only one week earlier.
But Nam played with confidence from the very beginning and claimed the first set 7-5. He capitalised on the momentum to take the second set 6-3.
Nam will face Latvia’s Arturs Lazdins in the tournament’s semifinals.
In the group matches, Nam outplayed Taiwan’s Lin Wei-de and China’s Wang Huixin, winning both matches two sets to love.
China Junior U16 Beijing began on September 24.
Ha Noi lead tournament for stars
Ha Noi are leading at the ongoing National Star Marksmen Tournament in the capital city.
After five days of competitions, the hosts have pocketed six gold medals, three more than the second-placed Military team.
Yesterday, Ha Noi took three titles in the men's individual 10m running target mixed rifle by Nguyen Manh Cuong with 369 points.
Dau Van Dong of Military won in the men's individual 25m standard pistol, with 566 points.
And Nguyen Thi Hoa from Hai Duong triumphed in the women's three position 50m rifle event, with 660,2 points.
Today shooters will take part in the men's three position 50m rifle and sport pistol events.
The tournament will end tomorrow.
Vietnam Sepak Takraw in a blaze of glory
The country has won a total of one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 28th Sepak Takraw World Championship 2013 held in UdonThani province, Thailand.
The Vietnamese team grabbed a gold after beating the Republic of Korea 3-0 in the women’s regu event.
It also bagged a silver and a bronze in the final round for women and a second bronze in the regu event for men.
The Vietnamese sepak takraw team is now in Bangkok to take part in the Super Series 2013/14 from September 26-29.
Before competing at the 27th SEA Games in Myanmar in December, the national team will have a 20-day training course in Thaland, then take part in the Super Series Malaysia 2013/14 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from October 31 to November 3 and the Asian Sepak Takraw Championship in the Republic of Korea in early November.
Vietnamese U16s notch up first qualifier victory
Viet Nam had a win at the 2014 Asian Football Confederation Under-16 Championships' qualifying round on Wednesday in Malaysia.
The Vietnamese side defeated Indonesia 2-1 in the first round match of group J, earning three points and ranking second.
Pham Trong Hoa opened the scoring after Viet Nam were awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the clash at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium. They added a second with just eight minutes left.
Indonesian substitute Riyanto, who replaced midfielder Habib Arif Fadhilla at the 58th minute, reduced the deficit in the last seconds of the game.
Earlier, regional powerhouse Japan easily trounced the Philippines 9-0 to top the group.
In the next match, Viet Nam will play Japan while Indonesia face the Philippines tomorrow.
Female footballers compete at ASEAN Futsal
Vietnamese girls left for Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw on September 27 to compete at the 2013 ASEAN Futsal Tournament from September 28 to October 3.
They will play Thailand, Malaysia and hosts Myanmar in a tournament ahead of the 27th Southeast Asian games (SEA Games) to be held in Myanmar later this year.
They were called in for training on September 4 under the guidance of Thailand’s Rakphol Sainetngam with provided them with physical exercises and attacking skills.
They will return to HCM City for training on October 4 before flying to Japan on November 15 for follow-up training and to Myanmar on December 8 for SEA Games.
Vietnam finished third in Group A, failing to enter the semi-finals of the recent 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 4) in the Republic of Korea in June 2013.
