Phuc successfully beat Katso Molefe of Botswana 6-4 in the finals to clinch the medal.

This year has seen about 7,000 athletes and partners from approximately 170 countries and territories compete across 26 sports. 

Vietnam has sent six athletes and three coaches to the event. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu and Kieu Nguyen Danh Thai are representatives in athletics, Nguyen Chau Hoang Phuc and Do Thi Cam Ly are taking part in boccia, whilst Nguyen Ngoc Lan Anh and Nguyen Dinh Toan are competing in swimming.

Vietnam Airlines has pledged to provide air tickets for the Vietnamese team to the competition.
