VietNamNet Bridge – According to regulations of FINA, Vietnamese swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc has satisfied conditions to get a ticket to the Olympics 2012, said Mr. Dinh Viet Hung, an official from the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.



According to Hung, Phuoc gets the ticket not because he attained the B standard of Olympics, but he broke the standards to participate in the World Swimming Championships 2011.

On May 5, 2011, Phuoc competed at men’s 100m butterfly category at an international swimming tournament in Malaysia. His record was 53.56 seconds, which exceeded the standards for joining the world swimming championships 2011 in July. Phuoc was the only Vietnamese swimmer who won the card to this event.

According to FINA’s rules, Olympic tickets are granted to swimmers who break A standards of Olympics and selected swimmers who satisfying standards for competing at the world championship. Phuoc is among of them.

Phuoc is practicing in Nanning, China to prepare for the competition in Singapore this June, in order to reach the A standards.

Besides Phuoc, female swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien who broke the B standards for women’s 200m backstroke, is the second hope of Vietnam’s swimming sports.

Vien is now in a training course in the US. She still has two chances to get an Olympic card: the qualifier round in the US on May 10, and the Southeast Asia championships in Singapore in June. All swimming tournaments which are qualifier rounds for the Olympics will close on June 18.
