The ancient town of Hoi An in the central province of Quang Nam was named among 15 best cities of the world in a recent readers’ vote of the US travel magazine Travel & Leisure.

Hoi An ranked seventh in the list with a score of 90.31. According to the magazine, most of the voted cities are pedestrian-friendly, possess ample green space and has a rich history that is being thoughtfully preserved as the city grows.

Hoi An boasts many temples, pagodas and old houses. The ancient city was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Recently, online media outlet Thrillist of the US has listed the ancient city among the most beautiful and cheapest beach cities in the world.

The city’s Hoai River and its channels made the list of the 10 most famous canals in the world on the US-based travel website touropia.com in 2014.

Hoi An was chosen for the 2013 Townscape Award by the UN-Habitat Regional Office in Asia.
