Over the past five years, hundreds of meters of Cua Dai coast have been hit by waves, causing serious erosion and landslides. Local people and authorities have piled thousands of sandbags along the coast to prevent erosion but it has not been enough. Many houses and restaurants along the coast have been removed.
Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen The Hung told VietNamNet that the local government has implemented anti-erosion measures to protect the coast such as reinforced concrete embankments with an inclined roof and soft embankments with geosynthetic bags or Geotube bags (high-quality woven bags containing sand).
“According to our observation, the most effective anti-erosion solution is to build sloped reinforced concrete embankments. This solution can protect the shore while creating sand deposits to create the beach in the summer," Hung said.
He said that Hoi An is implementing a VND 145 billion project to build an embankment to protect and regenerate Cua Dai beach with a length of more than 1.8km, running from Cua Dai beach in Cua Dai ward to Cam An ward.
