VietNamNet Bridge - More than 3 kilometers of Cua Dai coast of Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province have been damaged by waves. Local people are living in fear.
Since late 2014 Cua Dai beach has been affected by erosion. Of the total 7 km coast, over 3 kilometers suffer from serious erosion, said Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Chairman of Hoi An. One area of beach was wiped out.
Also since late 2014, Hoi An authorities have spent about VND25 billion (over $1 million) to drive in stakes and build 400 meters of embankment. However, erosion is still a big problem.
Quang Nam province has held many seminars on this issue and invited experts to survey and study but it has not yet found effective measures against erosion along Hoi An coast.
The famous Cua Dai beach is now closed.
Hoi An people are worried because erosion is getting worse.
While waiting for assistance from the central government, Hoi An authorities have mobilized local people and businesses to build embankments along the coast.
The Government has assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Quang Nam province to devise an overall scheme to prevent coastal erosion and to restore Cua Dai beach.
