Authorities in the ancient town of Hoi An are seeking government help to protect Cua Dai Beach which is facing more serious erosion following Storm Damrey.

Big flood tides attacked the beach which has been protected by thousands of bags of sand. Up to around 1 kilometre of the beach dyke were damaged by the storm.

Before the typhoon, Hoi An City spent up to hundreds of billions of VND to consolidate the dyke along the beach. However, the efforts failed to protect it from the violence of Storm Damrey. 

Many restaurants along the beach even spent more money to protect the dyke, but, they have still been affected by erosion. They have had to temporarily close.

Nguyen The Hung, vice chairman of Hoi An Town People’s Committee, said that he couldn’t believe the condition of the beach after the storm, and said it was beyond the city’s capacity to address.   

At a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 7, Chairman of Quang Nam Province People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu informed the problem the government leader of the problem and asked for help. 

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged Quang Nam Province to report the most feasible solution for Cua Dai Beach to the government for consideration.
