VietNamNet Bridge – Hundreds of traffic accident victims were rushed to emergency rooms of hospitals, particularly in Ha Noi and HCM City, during the National Day holiday that offered an extended weekend.

The Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City's District 5 admitted 420 traffic accident victims in the last two days, many of them with head injuries.

Doctors at the hospital said that 25 beds in the hospital's patient observation wards were full on the afternoon of September 1.

On September 2, the hospital's emergency department admitted 41 traffic accident victims between 7am to 2pm. Of these, 33 suffered serious brain injuries, hospital staff said.

Thee Gia Dinh People's Hospital in Binh Thanh District gave emergency aid to 222 people including 74 traffic accident victims on September 1.

The Centre of Traumatology and Orthopaedics in District 5 also admitted 145 patients on September 1, including 57 people injured in traffic accidents.

The number increased to 158 on September 2, including 89 victims of traffic accidents.

The emergency ward of Thu Duc General Hospital and People's Hospital No 115 also admitted hundreds of victims of traffic accidents in these days.

In Ha Noi, about half of the 161 people brought to the emergency ward of the Viet Duc Hospital on the evenings of September 1 and 2 were traffic accident victims.

On September 3, the hospital provided emergency aid to 40 victims of traffic accidents.

Nguyen Xuan Vinh, a hospital staff, said the main cause of traffic accidents was drunk driving.

Blood tests of many victims showed that the alcohol content in their blood was high, he said.

Illegal motorbike race

Last Thursday evening, hundreds of motorbike drivers from HCM City and provinces of Dong Nai, Tay Ninh and Binh Duong and Ba Ria Town went to Vung Tau City for participating in an illegal motorbike race on September 2.

The police in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province strengthened inspections and kept watch on March 3 Street, Nghinh Phong slope, and the Bai Truoc Park in the corner between Thuy Van and Quang Trung streets in order to prevent illegal motorbike racing.

On September 1 and 2, they detained 450 motorbikes for violating several traffic rules including reckless driving and not wearing helmets.
