Half of the 200 participants are members of the community of
homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals.

The remaining half are heterosexuals. “We are members of mountaineering and
parachute clubs. I and over ten foreign members join this event to support
homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals,” said I Van, 25.

Nga, who runs a coffee shop on Hoi Vu Street, Hanoi, participated in the event.
“I have some homosexual friends. They are wonderful. I and the son in my belly
love and support them,” Nga said.

A gay said: “I’m married and have a son but I still have relationship with a gay.
Perhaps my wife knows about this. I hope that the society will be open to
homosexuals. Once we are accepted, my family, my wife and my son can understand me.”

Ms. Van Anh, from Csaga center, the organizer of Viet Pride 2012, said that
she was determined to hold the parade even with one or two participants but
she was surprised to see many people joining the parade.

Mr. Hung, 65, a motorbike driver at Bach Thao Park, Hanoi, said: “I was
curious and did not know what these young people were doing, until
I heard they shouted “Supporting homosexuals.” I will support what is right,” Hung said.
