VietNamNet Bridge – A first-ever Hong Kong Film Festival is expected to take place in the city on March 22 if organizers get nod from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The information was unveiled at a meeting between Fong Ngai, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in ASEAN and Hua Ngoc Thuan, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee last Monday.

“The festival will be the first cultural link-up between Hong Kong and HCMC,” said Ngai at the HCMC People’s Committee in District 1.

“Vietnam is Hong Kong’s fourth important market in ASEAN after Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia with regards to the economy. Thus, besides trade and investment, we aim to enhance the cultural exchange,” he added.

According to Ngai, there will be ten movies at the festival - drama, action and romantic films.

“We also plan to bring popular Hong Kong directors and actors to meet Vietnamese audiences as well as conduct numerous seminars for movie makers,” Ngai added.

Thuan said that the city authority needs an approval document from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to implement a marketing campaign and movie theaters’ can also help arrange the event.
