Under the document, all State and private hospitals across the country must conduct a self-check in November, and, subsequently, management organisations will conduct a check from November 15 to December 15.

Associate Professor Luong Ngoc Khue, director of the Viet Nam Medical Service Administration, said assessing hospitals is an annual activity of the health sector to monitor their professional work, health examination and treatment services.

It would be the basis to set up a plan to improve quality of hospitals, he said.

Hospitals conducted self-assessment based on the norms issued by the Ministry of Health (MoH) on November 18 last year, including various fields such as hygiene, waste treatment, landscape, and rooms’ quality, as well as medical workers’ professional skills and behaviour, and treatment results.

The departments of health and the MoH will organise inspection teams to conduct checks on the hospitals.

After the inspection has concluded, if necessary, the MoH will set up another inspection team, headed by the Viet Nam Medical Service Administration, to re-check hospitals with much higher marks compared with other hospitals at the same level and hospitals of which quality problems are sought after by the community.
