Doan Thi Thanh Hai from Xuan La Ward in Tay Ho District said she has just booked a VND8 million (USD338) house-cleaning service package. The same service was just VND3 million three months ago.

According to Le Thi Hong Ha from Hoang Mai District, it was not easy to hire people for house cleaning as Tet is nearing. She paid VND2.5 million for the service for her 80-square metre apartment which will be carried out a week before Tet. The fees are only VND500,000 ordinarily.

Tran Ngoc Luong from a company in Cau Giay District which provides house-cleaning services, said there had been a 10-fold explosion in the number of bookings. The house-cleaning fees paid for an employee per hour are around VND200,000 compared to VND130,000 usually. The fees are VND25,000-35,000 per square metre.

“Over the past two days, we received orders for before the 23rd day of lunar December to avoid scheduling difficulties,” Luong added.

Some house-cleaning service providers do not accept orders for apartments to save travel time for their staff.

Tran Thi Thuy from My Dinh Ward in Nam Tu Liem District who works in house cleaning said prices had risen to VND150,000 per hour. She currently works 13-15 hours per day. She earns VND1.5-2 million a day at this time of the year.
