Binh and Dong sent 12 years studying techniques in France, Thailand, China and US.

Each figure takes at least two months to complete, and so far the duo has made 15 likenesses.

"I think it's a great way to make tributes to the artist of past generations," said Thanh Tong, a well-known folk opera artist.

The wax figures will be displayed in settings of the 1960s and 1970s, with traditional music highlighting their careers.

Hoai Linh, who is famous for his works in comedies and is helping promote the project, said with each new figure, they will have new ceremony to introduce the artist's life and career to visitors. It is expected the house of wax will become a major tourist stop in HCM City and introduce young audiences to traditional art forms.

The figures are being set up in a house in the To Dinh project, a temple in HCMC's Nha Be District that Linh is building to honour artists. The temple is expected to be completed next year.
