The air routes to famous cities in the region are offered by all air carriers which strive to attract passengers at competitive airfares. Two of Vietnam’s air carriers – Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air  -- provide flights on all routes, but in different segments and with different airfare levels.

Reporters looked at booking tickets from Hanoi and HCM City to cities in Asia to compare the airfares offered by different air carriers. The departure time was February 11 and the return time February 18.

Among low-cost carriers (LCCs) in the region, Vietjet Air offers the lowest airfare or the second lowest. Meanwhile, in the high-end market segment, Vietnam Airlines seems to set the highest airfares.

As for flights from Hanoi to Bangkok (Thailand), Vietjet’s airfare was the second lowest compared with other air carriers with VND2.6 million for return ticket.

Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines’ return ticket was the second most expensive, at VND4.8 million.

The airfares set by Vietnam Airlines, the nation’s flag air carrier, are among the highest  compared with other regional air carriers and Vietnamese rivals.
If the departure point is HCM City, Vietjet’s ticket is still the second cheapest among the carriers with VND1.9 million (return ticket). Vietnam Airlines was the most expensive, with VND4.8 million.

Other popular routes are to Singapore. Vietjet does not provide flights from Hanoi, while Vietnam Airlines offers flights with VND6.4 million (return ticket), the most expensive airfare.

With the departure point in HCM City, one can fly with Vietjet which offers the cheapest airfare at VND1.7 million (return ticket). Vietnam Airlines offers tickets at VND5.3 million.

As for flights to Seoul from Hanoi, Vietjet which offers the lowest airfare among six LCCs which provide flights on the route, at VND8.1 million.

Vietnam Airlines’ airfare for the same route is VND14.3 million.

If travelers depart from HCM City, they have to pay VND10.9 million flying with Vietjet Air and VND12.9 million with Vietnam Airlines. The airfare is lower than that offered by the other three airlines which fly to Seoul.

The same ranking can be seen with the flights on other routes in the region such as the ones to Taipei and Busan.

In the latest news, Vietjet has announced that it will provide additional flights from Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City at night and offer the discount rate of up to 40 percent for the additional flights.

The additional flights will be on the days from January 20 to February 7, or from the 23rd of the last month of the lunar calendar to the 11th of the first month.
