VietNamNet Bridge – The punishment measures to be applied to the teacher who hit the students on the face in Binh Dinh province have not been defined. It turns out to be a complicated matter.

When teachers scold, curse and beat students

A lot of students cried about the leave of teacher Tran Anh Tuan.

In a clip posted on Internet some days ago, a teacher was seen slapping a student in a black shirt repeatedly on his face.

Another male student came closer to the teacher and asked: “Why did you hit him so violently?”

When the teacher tried to hit the other student on the face, the student fought back to the teacher.

The teacher, Tran Anh Tuan, 24, is a chemistry teacher of the Nguyen Hue High School in Binh Ding province.

Local press has reported that Tuan, who incurs the violent criticism from the public these days, has asked for the school’s permission to return to his home village to “take a rest.”

The Board of Management of Nguyen Hue High School on February 22 gathered a meeting to discuss how to discipline the young teacher for his incorrect behavior.

Quach Nguyen Huyen Tran, Headmaster of Nguyen Hue High School, still declined to reveal the school’s decision when meeting reporters after the meeting.

However, people believed that the teacher would be dismissed for his mistakes.

Tuan Anh is a young teacher, who works for the school under the short term one-year labor contract.

However, the dismissal, if it is decided, is believed to raise controversy. While some parents think the teacher needs to be heavily punished as a warning for others, the majority of the school’s students believe that this is unfair for the teacher.

On February 23, a new video clip was posted on Internet, showing the young teacher making a farewell to the students of 10A9 class of the Nguyen Hue School before he left for home village.

In the video clip, the teacher was “surrounded” by a lot of students, who asked him to reconsider his decision and stay working at the school. Some male students burst crying when they failed to persuade the teacher to cancel his decision.

The scenes in the clips have surprised many people. Why is a teacher, who behaved incorrectly, beloved by students? Is it reasonable to dismiss a teacher who conducted unreasonable behavior when he lost temper?

The way the Nguyen Hue High School deals with the students involved in the case has also raised controversy.

Tran on February 21 informed that the school’s board of management has decided to discipline the student who filmed the scene with his smart phone, because the student violated the school’s regulations which stipulate that students must not use smart phones during lessons.

Meanwhile, Professor Van Nhu Cuong, Headmaster of the Luong The Vinh High School in Hanoi, a well-known educator, has expressed his disagreement with the school’s decision.

He said it would be better praise the student who helped clarify the case by providing proofs than criticizing him.

“It is a blunder to criticize such a good student,” he commented.

Some years ago, a student in Bac Giang province, who filmed the exam cheating at the Doi Ngo High School with his camera, also violated the regulations because he brought camera into the exam room.
