VietNamNet Bridge – Although Heroic Mother Tran Thi Xua of Ben Tre Province lost her only son to the American war, she is never alone, having been supported by local organisations since that time, and honoured each year on War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27.

The province's Women's Union and many other mass organisations recently visited her house, offering gifts and their best wishes for the 87-year-old woman.

"Our sons sacrificed their lives in the American War because they believed their mother's life would be better in an independent state," said the woman who lives alone in a "gratitude house" in Binh Dai District.

She is one of about 2,000 heroic mothers in Ben Tre Province who lost their children during the American War.

The lives of Xua and 15 heroic mothers are being featured in a new TV documentary series on HCM City Television (HTV).

The first episode of the 16-part series, called Huyen Thoai Me Viet Nam Anh Hung (The Legend of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers), was aired earlier this month, attracting many viewers in the region. The film group divided its staff into several teams to travel to outlying areas of provinces across the country, including Bac Kan and Kien Giang, to capture images of heroic mothers going about their tasks in daily life.

The series is aired at 7am every day on the HTV9 channel.
