VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City Television and Cat Tien Sa Company are producing a music-based reality show based on Star Academy broadcast on American television.

Ngoi Nha Am Nhac, to begin at the end of this month, is a live contest involving 14 contestants aged 16-30 with singing and dancing skills who will stay together for a period and be trained by coaches.

Every week they will perform in front of a jury and audiences who will eliminate the weakest contestant.

Before that, composers Phuong Uyen, Le Quang and Luu Thien Huong, singers Siu Black and Ngoc Anh, and Ha Thuy, music lecturer at the Military College of Arts and Culture, will select the 14 best contestants.

The selection round will be held this weekend in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) city of Buon Me Thuot, April 12 and 13 in Ha Noi, and April 17, 18 and 19 in HCM City.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen will screen his film Choi Voi (Adrift) at several American universities from Sunday.

At the invitation of the New York-based Institute for Vietnamese Culture and Education, Chuyen will also partake in discussions following each showing.

The film will run from April 8 to 15 at eight universities including Yale, Pennsylvania, New York and Princeton.

Chuyen was the first Vietnamese director to win the Cinefoundation third prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000.

Adrift, which also won the FIPRESCI prize at the Venice Film Festival in 2011, stars Vietnamese overseas actress Linh Dan Pham, who achieved fame in the Oscar-winning movie Indochine.
