VietNamNet Bridge – Hue-based teacher Nguyen Xuan Huu Tam pocketed the special prize for the single shot called Bien va con nguoi (sea and humankind) at the award ceremony for the second Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2013 on Thursday at the Reunification Palace in District 1.

“I appreciate my photo as this is the place I have been teaching for years and it brings back lots of good memories about my students and their parents. An image of a small boat in between strong and high waves informs viewers about the great efforts and bravery of parents to raise their children,” Tam said at the ceremony. “This year’s Teachers’ Day (November 20) is the most memorable in my teaching career as I was announced to win the contest on this day,” Tam added.

The contest which was held by the Vietnam Heritage magazine, HCMC’s Cultural Heritage Association and Canon Marketing to mark Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23) also honored Nguyen Van Dong, first prize winner of the single photo category for his work named Di cho ve, Sapa (Sapa, back home from the market).

Especially, popular artist Hoang The Nhiem who is known as the king of landscape photos in Vietnam brought home first prize in the category for photo collection Le hoi phao Dong Ky (firecracker festival in Dong Ky).

There were 27 winning works in total presenting people’s daily lives, traditional careers, festivals and landscapes. Prizes for special and first prizes were - a package of Canon EOS7D and Pixma Ip7270 printer and a package of Canon EOS60D and Selphy CP900 printer respectively.

The competition attracted over 6,016 works, 3,793 were single shots and 267 photo collections by 339 authors nationwide. The entry number was double compared to the first contest last year.

The best 189 photos from 16 collections and another 66 single shots were chosen to be presented at on-going displays at 16 provinces and cities nationwide. The organizers also published these artworks in a photo book and in Vietnam Heritage magazine, its website and Facebook page.
