VietNamNet Bridge – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue is to send art troupes to the regional folklore festival to be held later this month in Da Lat.

The festival will present 12 provincial art troupes representing localities near and on the Truong Son Mountain Range and Central Highlands, including Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Kon Tum, and Lam Dong.

The festival will host art performances by local ethnic minorities.

According to the organisers, the festival aims to help preserve the unique cultures of the different ethnic minority groups in the region.

Activities will include re-enactments of rituals, cồng chiêng (gongs) performances and a display of ethnic minority costumes.

The 3-day festival, from November 23-25, will also host a beauty contest, cooking competition, as well as crossbow and javelin events.

A food fair offering typical dishes will be available.

Participants at the festival will have the chance to take part in a tour visiting ethnic minority villages in remote mountainous areas of Lam Dong Province.

The event is important to preserve and protect the typical culture of groups, such as the Bru-Vân Kiều, Tà-Ôi, Kơ-Tu, Gié-Triêng, Cor, Hrê, Gia-Rai, Ê-đê, Ba-na, and Xơ-đăng, according to the organisers.

The festival is the second of its kind, with more art troupes and participants taking part compared to the first, which was held in Da Lat in 2014.
