VietNamNet Bridge - After a big flood last November, some calabash trees have grown up in Mr. Ba Le’s garden in Phuoc Thuan commune, Ninh Thuan province. A tree has yielded two huge calabashes.
A calabash which is bigger than a 3-year-old
baby.
Be Le said the trees developed very quickly and they yielded calabashes that are bigger than normal, weighing around 3-5kg each.
He chose several calabashes as seeds. “They kept growing and growing and didn’t get old. I made a frame for them but these calabashes kept growing so I had to put them down on the ground,” Ba Le said.
A calabash is now nearly 50kg in weight, 72 cm long and another is nearly 1m long and over 30kg in weight.
Some people wanted to buy the two calabashes but Ba Le didn’t agree. He said he would keep them to multiply.
The calabashes may continue to develop.
The world largest calabash is 1.6m long but its body is much smaller than the one in Ninh Thuan.
