VietNamNet Bridge – People on Cu Lao Cham Islet in Hoi An City, Quang Nam province, are living in an ‘unsafe’ situation because their houses are threatened by a troop of hundreds of monkeys.



According to the islet authorities, hundreds of monkeys have flocked from the mountain to harass local people.

Mr. Le Duoc, a local man, said that the monkeys often appear in the early morning or at noon, when local residents are sleeping or when they are absent from home. Monkeys have broken into houses to destroy furniture or steal things.

Duoc said that sometimes they took away rice and food that his wife had just processed.

Some local men took tough measures to drive away the monkeys. Thanks to the local government’s control, monkeys are protected safely.

Local people asked the authorities to seek way to take the monkeys back to the forest.

Hoi An’s Chair Le Van Giang said that the city authorities had asked scientists to seek measures to bring hundreds of monkeys back to their home and to preserve them.

Cu Lao Cham Islet is a world biosphere and a nature reserve.
