VietNamNet Bridge – On the evening of August 20, a hundred motorbikes were punctured on Kim Ma Road, Hanoi, owing to nails. Street cleaners and local people collected ten kilos of nails on the road.

This is the first time such a case had been reported in Hanoi. Local residents said they saw many people walking on the road with their punctured motorbikes. The road bed was covered by hundreds of new nails.

Ms. Hang, a street cleaner, said she collected over one kilo of nails within a 30m road section.

Local people joined street cleaners to collect nails, which are 2-5cm long. Nails covered the 3km road.

Hundreds of vehicles had punctures. Some motorbikes had up to six punctures.

Tens of motorbike repairmen appeared along the road. They charged victims VND30,000 ($2.5) for a patch and VND120,000 ($6) for a new tube. The prices are at least 1.5 times higher than normal prices.

Some witnesses said they saw two young men on a motorbike spreading nails on the road at around 6pm, when it was raining.

Hanoi’s traffic police officers were present to deal with the case.
