On January 2, various teams, including rescue forces, the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Beach Management Board, and the Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board, were mobilized to address erosion at My Khe Beach along Vo Nguyen Giap Street in Phuoc My Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang.

Recent intensified northeastern monsoon winds and high waves have severely eroded sections of My Khe Beach.

The damage extends to the foot of the embankment in several areas, with some spots carved into undercuts, uprooting trees and toppling them into the sea.

Several beachfront businesses have suffered significant damage, with kiosks destroyed by powerful waves.

Despite efforts by shop owners to erect bamboo stakes and use large sandbags for protection, the waves have overwhelmed these temporary measures.

At the site, over 200 individuals were organized into teams to fill sandbags, which were then placed into metal cages stacked to form a temporary seawall.

The emergency structure, approximately 500 meters in length, is expected to be completed within five days.

Nguyen Van Tuan, a member of the rescue team from the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Beach Management Board, explained that the construction effort must be concentrated in the mornings when the tide is low.

Phan Dinh Duc, Deputy Director of the Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board of Da Nang, stated that waves have eroded about 500 meters of coastline across Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.

The most severely affected area is a 100-meter stretch at My Khe Beach.

“We are currently responding with available local resources, using sandbags placed in steel cages to create a three-layer barrier.

Work is being expedited during low tides, as high tides in the afternoon prevent construction.

For a long-term solution, the city government plans to construct concrete embankments, pending approval of the detailed design," Duc said.

On December 31, 2024, Da Nang's Chairman Le Trung Chinh inspected the site and directed urgent actions to protect the safety of residents and tourists.

Chinh instructed relevant departments and local authorities to develop comprehensive and sustainable solutions to protect the coastline, particularly at My Khe Beach.
