VietNamNet Bridge – Hungarian author Lackfi Janos will host an exchange with Vietnamese readers tomorrow to present a Vietnamese translation of one of his books.

Janos is well-known for poetry, children’s books and short stories. The humourous book Milyenek a magyarok? (Who are the Hungarians?), one of his most famous books, will be introduced in Vietnam as translated by Giap Van Chung.

The Hungarian Embassy in Vietnam and the Nha Nam Culture and Communications Comapny co-operated to publish the book.

“Among 10 million Hungarian people worldwide, there are 15 Nobel laureates. In the 20th century, they contributed to the global culture and science as much as Germany with a population of 60 million,” said Nguyen Thanh Tung from Nha Nam Company.

“We acknowledge that it’s interesting to read about Hungarians, both positive and negative features.”

“With a humourous style, the author will reveal funny stories as well as sorrowful pages in the history, culture and society of Hungarians.”

Janos was born in 1971 in Budapest.  He works as a writer, poet, translator and editor. He is the author of more than 30 books, half for adults, half for children, and has translated 35 books from French. He won two noble literary awards, the Attila Jozsef and Prima Primissima prizes, among others. 

Translator Chung was honoured with the Pro Cultura Hungarica award in 2011 for his continuous and dedicated work in preserving and promoting Hungarian cultural values abroad.

The author and translator will meet with readers at Toong Co-working Space, 8 Trang Thi Street, Hanoi from 7 to 8.30pm on Friday.
