VietNamNet Bridge – At noon on July 16, Rammasun typhoon entered the East Sea, and is predicted to affect the Gulf of Tonkin and the northern provinces of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong in the next few days.

The storm at noon on July 16 was about 850 kilometers east southeast of the Hoang Sa Archipelago (Paracel Islands) with the strongest winds from 134 to 149 km per hour (level 13). Then the storm moved northwest at a speed of 20-25 km per hour.

It is forecasted that by noon of July 17, the storm will be about 300 km to the east of Hoang Sa with winds from 134 to more than 166 km per hour (level 13, 14).

The storm will then move to the north. By July 18, Rammasun will be in the eastern area of Hainan Island (China).

According to Hoang Duc Cuong, Director of the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecast, after landing in Hainan Island, Rammasun will affect the Gulf of Tonkin and the provinces of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong in Vietnam with winds of level 9 and 10, causing heavy rainfall of up to 200-300 mm.

Hanoi needs to be in anticipation of flooding, while mountainous areas must be be aware of potential mudslides.

Due to the impact of the storm circulation, the eastern area of the East Sea will have winds up to level 9 or 10, which will increase to level 11 and 12. In the Paracel Islands, winds will increase to level 9 or 10.

Last night, Rammasun which was packing sustained winds of 166 kilometers per hour, hit large parts of the Philippines, killing at least 10 people.
