Lo Hoai Thom, Chair of Yen Na commune, where the power plant is located--told VietNamNet that at around 10 am of September 13, the mountain was suddenly broken. A huge amount of soil and rock fell down to the power plant’s yard.
“This place is very dangerous. Nobody dares to go there. The broken mountain is only 5 meters from the power plant. The mountain keeps breaking. If rain continues, turbines will be buried,” the official said.
In 2007, 18 workers and engineers of Ban Ve hydro power plant died in a mountain slide case.
The plant is taking many measures to prevent soil and mud falling from the mountain.
The severe floods in the central region have so far claimed 11 lives and caused great losses to the infrastructure and crops.
