Hydrofoils are no longer favored by passengers after many incidents.

Statistics show that in 2012, the country had six incidents related to hydrofoils. The most recent case occurred on July 26, when a hydrofoil failed in Long Tau River (Dong Nai province). The boat drifted and collided with buoys. In addition, hydrofoils often carry more passengers than permission, making public upset.

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province has asked the Ministry of Transport to not allow hydrofoils with one engine to operate on this route because this route passes Can Gio sea and Gang Rai bay which have big waves and strong wind, especially in the rainy season.

To ensure traffic safety in the transportation of passengers by high speed hydrofoils, the Ministry of Transport has asked the Departments of Transportation of HCM City City, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Hai Phong to direct ports to temporarily not license hydrofoils from September 2013, to check the safety conditions of this vehicle.

The Ministry also instructed relevant agencies to check safety and environmental protection conditions speedboat hydrofoils with one engine.
