The six international mediators on the Iran nuclear issue have agreed on a new resolution on Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) may adopt it as soon as on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

After his meeting with visiting EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow that the resolution reflects the common approaches of the six powers, including the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany, who are also in the IAEA board of governors.

"We expect it to be adopted tomorrow," Lavrov said, adding that the resolution is a balanced one, which is based on facts and does not contain "dubious speculative assessments."

"It calls on both Iran and the IAEA to intensify joint work," he said.

Ashton told reporters that she believed dialogue is the best way to address the Iran nuclear issue, but stressed the European Union is still waiting for Iran to prove that the country is not seeking nuclear weapons.

She added that the international community should pressure Iran to fulfill its obligations that the country has agreed before on the issue.

Earlier in the day, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said the information contained in the agency's latest report on Iran's nuclear program is credible. In the report, IAEA said that Iran had carried out "organized and systematical" activities "specific to nuclear weapons" at least until the end of 2003.
