The event was among activities in the ongoing Ho Chi Minh City Shoppertainment 2023 - Ben Thanh Heritage Market which was organised for the first time by the municipal Department of Information and Communications and the District 1 People's Committee to promote local products and services on social media.
Many hot tiktokers who have a large number of followers including Thanh Nhi, Huyen Phi, Hang Du Muc, Truong Nha Dinh were invited to visit the stores selling food and fashion products at Ben Thanh Market to meet traders who introduced their shops online.
Ticktoker Nguyen Thi Diem Trang said that many traders at Ben Thanh Market are still following traditional ways of waiting for customers to visit their stores for shopping. "We've discussed with them measures to introduce and sell their products online," Trang said.
Owner of a clothes store, Nguyen Thi Hoang Ha, said that this event was very meaningful to traders at Ben Thanh Market. "More customers will know about us thanks to the online influencers," she said. "They've shared many good ideas and instructions to help us better promote the image of Ben Thanh Market online."
During the three-day event, which lasted until December 16, the influencers will work with the traders at the market to introduce and sell their products by livestreaming at the stores.
Established by the French in 1912 on an area of more than 13,000 square metres, Ben Thanh Market has become one of the city’s most well-known city sites.
It has more than 3,000 stalls, offering food, garments, footwear and handcrafts. Shops selling Vietnamese handicrafts and food, such as fried seafood, are popular with both foreign and local visitors.
Statistics showed that before the Covid-19 pandemic, the market normally attracted up to over 7,000 visitors a day on weekends and during holidays.
However, the number of visitors to the market have sharply fallen after the pandemic, with online shopping trends being mentioned as one of the reasons.
