Vietnamese people in a tour to Thailand

J Travel have posted details of a tour to Thailand that includes sitting the IELTS test. The tour has attracted attention from lots of parents and students with thousands of likes and comments.

"We've looked for information and know that the IELTS test will be organised in Thailand and Singapore in the next two months," a facebook user from Hanoi commented. "We hope that my son can attend the IELTS test there as he would need the certificate for his overseas study in the UK next April. I'm happy to see that some travel companies are launching tours that include the IELTS testing service. I'm sure demand is high."

Director of Trang An International Tourism Company, Nguyen Huu Cuong, said that they were working with Thai partners to organise IELTS test tours soon.

"We've been providing tours to Thailand over the past eight years," Cuong said. "We'd also organised tours to watch football matches during the SEA Games and AFF Cup events. Now we see the high demand for taking the IELTS test in Thailand and will try to work with our partners in the neighbouring country to organise it."

Marketing director of BestPrice Tourism Company, Bui Thanh Tu, said that if the IELTS tests in Vietnam are postponed for a long period, short tours to Thailand and Singapore to take the test would become popular.

"Tours to Thailand are easy and cheap," he said. "A five-day-four-night tour now costs about VND7 million, including air tickets, accommodation, meals, and travelling."

The British Council and IDP, which are two organisations licensed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to organise the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests in the country, have announced that they would postpone the IELTS test from November 10 until further notice.

In their public statement released on Thursday morning, the British Council Vietnam said that the situation was beyond their control and they were working closely with the ministry to restore operations as soon as possible.

The announcements came after the MOET on Tuesday asked education departments in all cities and provinces to review the organisation of foreign language tests and report to the ministry.

According to the MOET, the lack of strict management of the organisation of the tests risked affecting the rights of test takers.
