VietNamNet Bridge – Two workers were buried when an illegal coal mine collapsed on April 24 in the central province of Quang Nam.



On the afternoon of April 24, Ms. Quach Thi Sang, 28, her husband Quach Cong Ta, 30, and a 17-year-old man--Bui Duc Vuong, worked in an illegal coal mine in Dai Loc commune, Quang Nam province.

“Water suddenly flew into the trench. Mr. Ta was working near the surface so he got out of the trench before it collapsed. Ms. Vuong and Mr. Vuong were buried,” a witness said.

Chief police officer of Dai Hong commune said that the coal mine is around 50m deep. This is an illegal mine, ran by a local man named Nguyen Binh Vuong.

Three years ago, the local authorities banned small-sized coal mines of this kind. Vuong illegally opened this mine again for several days before the accident happened.

The local government used five big pumping machines to pump water out to seek victims but by noon April 25, the bodies were not found yet.
