A group of 31 illegal Vietnamese migrants, who were detained following a recent raid by Russian police in Moscow, headed home on Saturday.

They were among 600 Vietnamese people arrested during the July 31 raid, which targeted illegal migrants working at garment workshops in the east of the capital. Up to 1,000 foreign workers were detained during the operation.

The remaining illegal migrants would be deported as soon as legal procedures were completed, Russian authorities said.

After the raid, the embassy immediately sent representatives to the detention site. Later the Vietnamese community in Russia provided voluntary translators and raised funds for the illegal migrants to return home.
