Renowned Italian and Belgian artists performed their sand sculpture building skills in Tien Hai hamlet of Phan Thiet city, the south central coastal province of Binh Thuan on January 1-3.
Leonardo Ugolini from Italy and Enguerrand David from Belgium created a sculpture named “King Kong” from January 1 to 3.
At the same time, several artists from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts built two other sand sculptures entitled “Mother’s dream” and “Happiness”.
This was the first time visitors and local residents had a chance to watch the making of giant sand artworks performed by professional sculptors in Vietnam.
Leonardo Ugolini said this was the first time he had come to Vietnam and he was surprised at beautiful beaches in Phan Thiet, adding that the sand there was favourable for building sculptures.
Le Anh Tuan, Director of the event’s organiser – Nam Viet Binh Thuan Co. Ltd, the event was a test with the aim of creating a new tourism product for the province. His firm plans to open a sand sculpture park if the activity is welcomed by visitors.
