VietNamNet Bridge- Iced tea, herbal water, and rice offered for free at hospitals and on the street or playgrounds for children are depicted in these heartwarming images taken in Hanoi. 



Every Saturday night a free playground for kids is set up on Dao Duy Tu Street in the Old Quarter, with about 30 different pieces of equipment and other things to keep the kids occupied.

 

 

 

 

All of the wheels, wooden boards, bamboo sticks, and springs have been modified and joined together to create see-saws, slides and other equipment, bringing laughter to kids all around.

The playground is part of the Play Street project, run by Think Playgrounds. It opened in April 2015. This project has been praised by Hanoians and tourists.

The playground uses recycled and cheap materials to minimize cost.

Think Playgrounds is a volunteer group that focuses on building free playgrounds for kids, as there is not much space for them to play. This particular project will finish at the end of June and the group will move on to other projects, with plans to open similar playgrounds in other areas. Previous projects were in Quang Ngai, Son La, and Lao Cai.

 

 
 

Nguyen Thi Thung, 65, a resident of Phuc Tan Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi has become a friend of many poor laborers and relatives of cancer patients as she comes to the gate of the Central Tumor Hospital on Quan Su street in Hanoi every day to provide free herbal water for these people.




 

 

Every day hundreds of people, mainly patients and their relatives, line up to receive free herbal water of Mrs. Thung. Many motorbike taxi drivers and hawkers also take the free water sometimes.

Thung said doing this charity task, she felt stronger because she could see smiles of disadvantaged people.

 

 

 
 

Also at the gate of the Central Tumor Hospital, a beauty salon supplies free meals to patients and their relatives at noon and in the afternoon.

 

 

 
 

The meals are changed daily.

 

 

The "Fun Lunch" at a restaurant on Lien Tri Street, Hoan Kiem District for poor laborers, priced only VND1,000 ($0.05)/person. 

 

 

 

 
 

For poor workers, this restaurant is their heaven, where they get food for free and enjoy the food in a cool and clean space.

 

 
 

The VND1,000 meal includes vegetable, meat, tofu, eggs and desserts.

 

 
 

Many families on Hang Bong Street, Hoan Kiem District place free water bottles on the sidewalks to serve poor laborers.

 

 
 

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly, a shoeshine woman, said she drinks water there several times a day to save some money.
