Dai Hung Pottery Workshop in Binh Duong Province has upheld traditional techniques of making jars and jugs for more than 150 years.

The workshop, in Hamlet 1, Tuong Binh Hiep Commune, not only keeps traditions alive but is a major contributor to the local economy.

Generations of potters knead and mold the clay jars by hands and fire them with wood kilns. Potters don't earn much - about VND80,000 a day - but they say it is enough.

Ho Van Lon, a potter of 50 years' experience, said, "All seven members of my family are potters. My whole life is dedicated to clay and soil, and they have never betrayed me."

The workshop was shutdown briefly over concerns of pollution, but provincial authorities decided to preserve the traditional craft and, in 2006, Dai Hung Pottery Workshop was recognised as provincial relic site.

Bui Van Giang, the fifth owner of the workshop, is dedicated to keep the tradition alive.
