VietNamNet Bridge – Residents of Viet Hai island commune in Hai Phong’s Cat Hai district have been isolated by heavy rains and floods. Locals have used boats to move out of the commune.



 

The commune chair, Do Manh Hung, said the territorial rains on July 29 caused floods 1-2m deep for 30 out of 91 households in the commune.

It takes one hour by boat from the Beo wharf in Cat Ba town to Viet Hai dock. Visitors must walk or hire a xe om (motorbike taxi) to cross 1.5 km of forest road and then a mangrove forest by motorboat or boat to get to the commune.

Vinh Hai is one of many places in northern Vietnam that have been seriously affected by territorial rains in recent days. In other northern provinces, hundreds of houses have been flooded.
