The road along Kim Nguu canal is also a big insect market.

The Kim Nguu insect market opens all weekdays, but it is the most crowded on Saturdays and Sundays.

People come here not only to buy insects but also exchange their experiences and buy new birds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Insect sellers said they had bought insects from Saigon.

Insect buyers are bird and ornamental fish breeders.

 

 

 


Worms, crickets and locusts are sold for VND200,000 ($10) per kilo.

 

 

 


An insect seller named Thang said he sold 4-5kg of worms a day. Thang confirmed that insects were from Saigon, not China as rumored.

He says worms and crickets are easy to raise. They can develop normally in appropriate temperatures and are fed with corn bran.

Thang said some restaurants also purchased insects to process into delicious dishes. There are two kinds of worms of different sizes, fitting different species of birds.

 

 

 

 

 

Each centipede is sold for VND50,000 ($2.5)/each.
