VietNamNet Bridge - Thousands of fishermen of Quang Ngai province have returned home from Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters with boats full of fish to prepare for the lunar New Year festival.

These days, the port of Sa Ky in Binh Son District is filled with fishing boats returning from the fishing grounds of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa. According to the owners of the vessels, thanks to falling fuel prices and favorable weather, they have had a good year-end trip.

On Friday morning, Mrs. Tran Thi Nga from Tan Dinh village along with other women were at the Sa Ky Port to welcome her husband.

She said her husband had a successful trip on the fishing grounds of Truong Sa. “He earned VND20 million ($1,000) for the Tet," she said.

Captain Tran Trung from Dinh Tan village said his ship caught nine tons of fish, earning VND280 million ($14,000). On average, each fisherman earned at least VND20 million.

Captain Do Van Khoa from Binh Chau commune said that besides VND20 million shared by the boat owner, many fishermen earned extra money from their own fishing during their free time.

Many young fishermen caught dozens of red fish, weighing 10kg to 15kg each, earning several million dong.

Fishermen of Ly Son island district also had a good trip at the year end. On average each boat caught nine to 10 tons of fish, earning profit of VND200-VND250 million per ship.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai, so far this year local fishermen have harvested about 9,500 tons of seafood of all kinds, up by more than 60% compared to the same period last year.
