VietNamNet Bridge - Growers in the resort city of Da Lat are busy handling orders for cymbidium orchids from traders throughout the country to serve the upcoming lunar New Year.


 

Two weeks before lunar New Year, cymbidium orchids have been transported from Da Lat to other provinces. The highest price for a cymbidium orchid branch is about VND1.5 million ($71).

 

 

 

 
 

According to orchid growers, the price this year has risen slightly over last year.

The price of this orchid pot is VND4 million ($200). Compared with other species of flowers, planting cymbidium orchids is more complicated and costly because the trees must be grown in glasshouses and covered with special nets to keep the plants cool. The investment costs for one 1,000m2 garden of Cymbidium orchids can reach up to VND600 million ($30,000) for five years.
