Tinh Gia’s Party Secretary Truong Ba Phuc said from 8pm on September 30 to 10am on October 1, the rainfall in the district was about 550 mm, resulted in the breaking of two major dams.

Flood waters overflowed suddenly, submerging hundreds of households in several communes in Tinh Gia. Many households in Tung Lam commune were flooded to the roofs. The local authorities mobilized over 10 specialized boats to assist people in the flooded areas, Phuc said.

Not only causing serious flooding in residential areas, the incident also affected the National Highway 1A in Tinh Gia district, submerging more than 4 km of road.

In Nghe An province, water discharged from the Vuc Mau hydropower reservoir in Quynh Luu district also caused flood in the Highway 1A. About 500 households in the neighborhood were removed.
