VietNamNet Bridge - Specialized bicycles were handed over to police forces in 12 districts in Hanoi on August 12 as part of the city’s pilot plan to patrol by bicycle in an aim to create a friendlier public image.
Seventy-two specialized bicycles from the local company Thong Nhat are designed like advanced bicycle models. Several improvements were made to meet requirements of the police force and city streets.
The bicycle patrol will help policemen easily reach every small alley and street to access local residents to enhance communication and mobilization, ensuring security and order, said the vice head of Hanoi Police Department, Colonel Dao Thanh Hai.
The pilot programme will last three months. After being reviewed, the patrol will be set up in other areas of the capital, Hai said.
