Millions of people throughout Vietnam flocked to colourful countdown parties to welcome the New Year’s Eve in festive mood.

Thousands of Hanoians massed in front of the Opera House right from the early evening, enjoying art performances by both famous and amateur artists.

Foreign revelers also joined their Vietnamese friends on the once-in-a-year occasion on Ta Hien street, which is dubbed the “international intersection” in the heart of the Hanoi Old Quarter.

On the rooftop of the iconic glass-walled skyscraper Bitexco in southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City, fireworks were shot off at the stroke of midnight and a 3D laser show entertained revelers gathering around the tower and those strolling as far as Bach Dang ferry terminal and September 23 park.

The “Escape New Year 2015 –Age of Tomorrow” music party in district 7 started at 3pm and ended at midnight, attracting thousands of electronic music fans to the stage designed on a modern-fictitious theme.

Phan Thanh Nhan, a local student said this new-year eve is more cheerful and vibrant than last year’s.

The jubilant atmosphere also prevailed over Hoi An city in the central province of Quang Nam , one of the must-see Vietnamese attractions.

“I feel really warm and excited about the New Year welcome celebrations. I wish everyone a happy and peaceful new year”, said an overseas Vietnamese.
