VietNamNet Bridge – Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Sinh Hung held talks with Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives Marzuki Alie in Hanoi on September 5.

NA Chairman Hung highly valued Indonesia’s role during recent ASEAN meetings, helping raise ASEAN’s position in setting regional issues.

Indonesia has successfully upheld its role as ASEAN Interparliament Assembly (AIPA) chair by fostering contributions by member nations to establish an ASEAN Community by 2015, he said.

Hung also expressed his delight at the development of the Vietnam-Indonesia traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation towards a strategic partnership. He described Alie’s visit as a vivid manifestation of the relationship between the two countries.

Speaking highly of the results of their joint activities, the top Vietnamese legislator proposed both sides discuss mechanisms to boost two-way trade and investment.

Hung then congratulated Indonesia on the socio-economic and diplomatic achievements it has made despite the impact of the global economic crisis.

Marzuki Alie, who is also AIPA President, highlighted Vietnam’s role in the Assembly and Southeast Asia, hoping that the country will make significant contributions to the success of the upcoming AIPA General Assembly, to be held in Indonesia.

The Speaker reaffirmed that he is delighted with the development of Indonesia-Vietnam relations in regards to legislation, law enforcement, and people-to-people exchange, adding that he hopes both countries will further expand cooperation in tourism, culture, politics, economics, and diplomacy.

He proposed the two legislative bodies support the implementation of previously signed agreements, which facilitate economic cooperation and nurture the friendship between both nations.

The two top law-makers briefed each other on their respective countries’ situations and agreed to promote the exchange of delegations at all levels.

They also agreed to support each other in the AIPA and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
