VietNamNet Bridge - Inmarsat on Tuesday officially marketed its new global handheld satellite phone named IsatPhone Pro in Vietnam via Vietnam Maritime Communication and Electronics Company (Vishipel) as its distributor.
IsatPhone Pro delivers up to eight hours of talk time and up to 100 hours on standby, and offers high-quality satellite telephony, text and email messaging, said Drew Brandy, Inmarsat land mobile services director.
GPS location data can also be viewed and sent in a text message via the new product that allows for a 176kbps streaming rate for Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service.
Dust, splash and shock resistant, with an Ingress Protection rating of IP54, IsatPhone Pro is capable of operating in the most extreme temperatures, from minus 20 to 55 degrees Celsius. IsatPhone Pro is also the only global satellite phone to support Bluetooth.
“Vietnam could benefit immensely from having greater access to reliable, global mobile satellite communications services as its economic growth accelerates,” Drew Brandy said.
IsatPhone Pro expands the satellite communications options of professional users in the government, media, oil and gas, mining and construction sectors, he said of the potential customer segment.
Media organizations use BGAN to send emails, make calls, and file their reports from the field, whether it is from disaster-hit areas, war zones, sporting events or remote regions. The streaming service allows them to capture stories in real time and broadcast directly back to the studio.
As Vietnam is emerging as a strong economy, “it would see the evolution of a robust broadcast industry… which serves the domestic market and connects the country with the rest of the world. This makes Vietnam a very important market for Inmarsat’s BGAN service,” Brandy said.
