It’s the first time an international kite festival has been organised in Quảng Nam Province, with an aim of showcasing the craftsmanship and beauty of kite making and performance.

The festival, from July 25-28, is set to become an annual highlight on the central region's cultural and tourism calendar, attracting both domestic and international tourists.

Craftsmen from China, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, India and Cambodia will show off a diverse range of kites, with a colourful display along Hoiana’s beachfront area – just 5km from Hội An ancient town, organisers say.

One of the festival's main attractions will be the spectacular LED kite flying programme, illuminating the night sky from July 26-28, along with a grand music night featuring talented young performers on July 27.

Visitors can also enjoy kite making workshops, international food, magic shows and unique fire dance performances at the festival.

Steve Wolstenholme, chairman and CEO Hoiana Resort & Golf said: “The International Kite Festival-Quảng Nam 2024 is part of the Hoiana Summer Vibes 2024 event series, running from June to September. It brings together dozens of countries and territories showcasing over 100 different kite varieties.

“This festival will help promote the image of Quảng Nam as a tourism destination closer to international markets and the kite event will offer unique and memorable experiences for every visitor to the province.”

Quảng Nam, the only locality in Việt Nam with two UNESCO recognised world heritages sites, including Hội An ancient town, also offers visitors the Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary and the Hội An-Chàm Islands World biosphere reserve. It has hosted 4.6 million tourists, of which 3.1 foreign travellers were in the first half this year. - VNS
